Lee Lucas

Lee Lucas, portrayed by Andrea McEwan, is a character in Season 1 of Ocean Girl in 1994. She is a daughter of Lucas of Orca.

Lee first appears in episode 1; when Jason Bates is having lunch; with Damien. When Lee leaves, Damien tells Jason that; Lee is the commander's daughter, so they can ask for her help when in need.

In episode 2, Lee Lucas and other kids are patiently waiting for news of the lost boy - Brett Bates. Lee seems disappointed; when Vanessa Lane was blaming her action to Brett Bates. Because Brett, Froggy and Zoe have done a prank on Vanessa while she was naked, Vanessa seeks a revenge and doesn't like Brett. She set free a boat; which Brett is messing around on. Hence, he gets lost at sea.

In episode 4, when Damien loses a bet to Vanessa, Lee seems very uncomfortable because Vanessa cheats. Lee immediately goes after Damien to help him ease his pain of being embarrassed of the bet and doing the chicken dance. Eventually, both Damien and Lee finds themselves stuck in a storage room with water slowing filling up the room. Damien improvises and gets both of them out safely!.

In episode 5, Lee Lucas is the only one helping Brett and guiding him to hit the Pinata while everyone is laughing and screaming at him.

In episode 6, when all the kids are rounded up and questioned by commander Lucas. Lee Lucas is the only one defending the whole group while everyone else remains quiet.

In episode 7, Lee Lucas gives Froggy a password to access ORCA computer system to spy on ZENCO, a company in suspect of dropping illegal toxic waste to the ocean. Eventually, she helps set up the toxic waste proof to show the real face of ZENCO.

In episode 8; when Neri first time comes to ORCA, Lee Lucas is the first person saying hi to Neri at the cafeteria. However, Jason cuts them off to protect Neri from talking too much, revealing her identity.

In episode 9, Lee Lucas is hanging out with Damien and helping him to talk to Neri. Lee and Damien eventually go to the movie theater; with Neri, Jason, and Brett. Unexpectedly, Lee actually has feelings for Jason and they almost kiss. Who knows if they kiss more after that; oh, and Neri kisses Damien out of curiosity and it's not affection nor love.

In episode 12; when Jason asks Lee for a dance, she seems shy but happy inside to dance with him. But; when Neri shows up, Jason has to dance; with Neri because Jason doesn't want other people to find out; who Neri really is. Lee has to dance; with Damien and looks at Jason from a distance with sadness.

In episode 13, when Neri and Charley need help, Jason and Brett invites a group of friends they trust, which includes Lee, Damien, Jodie, Zoe and Froggy. Little did they know that Vanessa has been hiding behind a coach and ear-dropping everything. Finally, Vanessa decides to show herself and trash-talks Neri. Regardless, Lee Lucas tells Vanessa that her trash talks will not make a difference and will not save Charley. Lee says with confidence that Vanessa should not rat on their plan, or Vanessa will lose friends. Jodie agrees, and this persuades Vanessa to join the team and help free Charley.

In the end of episode 13, Lee persuades her dad, the commander of Orca, that protecting the ocean is the number goal of Orca, and Neri and Charley are a part of the ocean. Therefore; her dad should protect Neri and Charley's secret so that; no one can separate them and put them into cages and labs. Her dad agrees and tells Dr. Bates to keep her research about Neri and Charley a secret. This is the last time we see Lee and her dad on screen of this tv show.

If Lee's dad did file a report about Neri's true identity, PRAXIS (Preventative Response and eXtraterritorial Intelligence Service) from Season 4 might have arrived early and UBRI would have become irrelevant. Lee Lucas's influence over her dad helps the tv show to move smoothly to Season 2 and 3.

From a tv production viewpoint, Lee Lucas must go after season 1 because of maybe, two reasons. First, her dad is a commander and they need a new commander in charge. Second is probably her affection toward Jason. TV producers may not have want a love conflict between Neri and Lee. They want Neri and Jason to fall in love together. Therefore, Lee must go, and she does. Neri and Jason eventually fall in love, so this is quite predictable, and this makes season 3 and 4 boring, predictable, and repetitive. There is no season 5 maybe because of the nature of this.

But from a realistic viewpoint, if Lee was not removed after season 1, there could have been a more unpredictable love drama between Lee and Neri. Adult viewers might love to see how these two would act to get Jason's attention. Jason might have realized that Neri belongs to a different world. With different DNAs, Neri and Jason technically cannot make children. Hence, Lee is a better biological candidate. This might have been a more interesting ending for adult viewers.
